Winter Mulch top up for Outdoor Pots

Another beautiful sunny morning! Noticing another drop in air temperature as well as in soil / compost levels in outdoor pots, as I do a couple of hours winter tidy up. A garden can never have enough home made compost in my experience! Almost all of last year's home made 'stuff'' was shared among the flower beds last autumn, so opening a peat-free bag, tucked away in the studio at the bottom of the back garden. Reminded as I collect it, yet another tidy up job needs doing! Adding a few handful of potting grit for drainage to the bucketful of compost, each potted shrub is carefully topped up. This provides natural insulation, preventing potential plant damage, due to lots of freezing & thawing at this time of year. Noticing the autumn planted crocus, (Crocus vernus, 'Remembrance'), and Narcissus, ('Tete-a-Tete'), are already firing up shoots from the pots! Fingers crossed, the winter mulching should protect them. Working outside on a cold sunny morning is  pure joy. So too, stepping back into the warmth of the house to brew a mug of swirling Chai tea! Our indoor winter-fragranced windowsills, old terra-cotta pots, planted up, white shooting stars of Jasmine, (Jasminium polyanthum), and fragrant blue Hyacinth, (Hyacinth orientalis), both in full bloom. A morning of pure delight!
